Tornado Smith

Does anyone out there remember Tornado Smith who had a Wall of Death in Southend-on-Sea soon after World War 2. I very much enjoyed going up the steps and peering over what I remember as a rather rickety old wooden wall at his motor bike roaring round and round. Looking back I am surprised that the whole contraption did not collapse to the ground.
As petrol was in short supply at the time Tornado Smith used to ride up Southend High Street on a penny farthing bike with a sign advertising the fact that he was in great need of extra petrol for his show. I don't know if he got any.
