Trees at Yockenthwaite.

We had a lovely time in Yorkshire. To be with the family again is a delight. The only trouble was that the time went by too quickly. Where does it go?

Still wondering.

I still have no answer to yesterday's question " why do I blog"? I still do not know. I am going to Yorkshire in a couple of day's time to stay with family. Maybe I shall find the answer while I am there.

A question I have been asking myself

I have been asking myself 'why am I compiling this blog' ? Who is going to look at it? One person has made a comment. Besides family members, has anyone else who I shall never know browsed through it? It is a strange thing to do really. I look at other people's blogs with interest and I take an interest in popping things onto mine. It is launched onto the WWW where it will float around for ever more or until the whole thing falls apart and no longer exists. However, I shall carry on with it and enjoy doing it and let the 'whys' and 'wherefores' look after themselves.

Two Alices

The older woman is my Great Aunt Alice, the younger is my mother, also Alice. They are standing at the door of the old family home in Hampshire. The photo must have been taken in 1921 or thereabouts. I had happy family holidays staying with relatives in Hampshire.

Tea

I am suffering from a lack of inspiration this afternoon. My mind is feeling rather worn out. Mainly this is because the bits and pieces I am trying to get started on will not get going. I think I shall close the computer and do a very British thing. I shall go and put the kettle on. A cup of tea is what I need at this moment. Maybe I'll have a biscuit with it and meditate on the happy fact, that, all being well, Joe and I will be going to Yorkshire next week to see our younger son, his partner and our grand daughter and grandson.

Tornado Smith

Does anyone out there remember Tornado Smith who had a Wall of Death in Southend-on-Sea soon after World War 2. I very much enjoyed going up the steps and peering over what I remember as a rather rickety old wooden wall at his motor bike roaring round and round. Looking back I am surprised that the whole contraption did not collapse to the ground.
As petrol was in short supply at the time Tornado Smith used to ride up Southend High Street on a penny farthing bike with a sign advertising the fact that he was in great need of extra petrol for his show. I don't know if he got any.

The magic of fun fairs.

Joe and I have been looking at the fair in a local park this morning. It will be in full swing at the weekend. Since an early age I have loved fun fairs. My first visit must have been when I was around four or five years old. I have vague memories of winning a doll. My favourite roundabouts were the gallopers. The lights and the special sort of fair ground music and going up and down on the horses was so exciting. It was wonderful.
